“Star Wars Jedi: Survivor”
The galaxy far, far away expands further with the release of “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.” Developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, this sequel not only enriches the Star Wars universe but also spotlights the return of D.C. Douglas to video games as Rayvis, a Gen’dai warrior whose presence promises to redefine the narrative.
Five years after the events of the Jedi Holocron, Cal Kestis, now a seasoned Jedi Knight, continues his fight against the oppressive Galactic Empire alongside Saw Gerrera’s resistance. In a bold operation on Coruscant, Cal and his team manage to extract critical military information from Senator Daho Sejan, only to be ambushed by the Ninth Sister, a vengeful survivor from their past encounter on Kashyyyk. The confrontation leaves Cal’s team devastated, and though he successfully defeats the Ninth Sister, the recovered data reveals a disheartening truth: the Empire’s power and reach have only grown stronger. With the Stinger Mantis damaged during the escape, Cal sets off to find his old ally Greez for repairs on the remote planet of Koboh, where he finds himself embroiled in a conflict with the criminal Bedlam Raiders and their formidable leader, Rayvis.
Cal’s journey on Koboh leads him to a cave, where he encounters Zee, a droid from the High Republic era, who introduces him to the ancient Forest Array. After activating it, Cal has a vision of the past Jedi explorers and discovers Dagan Gera, a Jedi who succumbed to the dark side after feeling abandoned by the Order. The revelation of the mythical planet Tanalorr, hidden and potentially safe from the Empire, sets Cal and his reassembled crew on a new quest. Alongside Greez, Bode Akuna, and Merrin, they head to Jedha to join forces with Cere Junda and Eno Cordova in rebuilding the Jedi Archives. As their mission progresses, they uncover more about the planet’s past and the critical navigational compasses, leading to a series of betrayals and confrontations – including an intense battle with Rayvis (D.C. Douglas) – that test Cal’s resolve and force him to confront the dark side within himself.
Rayvis, portrayed by D.C. Douglas, emerges as a compelling force in the Star Wars saga. Known for their longevity and unique physiology, the Gen’dai’s inclusion through Rayvis offers fans a deeper dive into the lesser-seen corners of the galaxy. Douglas, with his rich history in voice acting—including notable roles in franchises like “Resident Evil” as Albert Wesker, “Mass Effect” as Legion, and 89 in “AI: the Somnium Files,” brings his rich voice and wry acting to this rare and fascinating character.
