D.C. Douglas Joins Genshin Impact as Chugunov in Version 7.0

Apparently D.C. Douglas has now entered Teyvat.

D.C. Douglas can officially be announced as the English-language voice of Chugunov in Genshin Impact, appearing in the newly released Version 7.0 update, Everwinter Without Mercy. The update launched globally on August 12, 2026 and opens Snezhnaya, the long-awaited seventh nation of Teyvat.

This is all perfectly normal. One spends several decades voicing homicidal masterminds, artificial intelligences, galactic warriors, anime sociopaths, corrupt volleyball coaches and various men who should never be allowed near governmental infrastructure, and eventually somebody hands D.C. Douglas a ticket to Snezhnaya.

Meet Chugunov

Chugunov enters the Snezhnaya storyline as an entrepreneur and factory owner with money, opinions and the sort of confidence generally associated with people who assume everyone else has misunderstood the situation. He becomes part of the central storyline unfolding through the new Chapter VII Archon Quests.

He is not merely Decorative Older Man Number Four.

Without wandering into spoiler territory, Chugunov receives considerably more dramatic material than his first impression might suggest. His relationships with the other characters gradually expose the personal history behind his behavior, giving Douglas room to move between pomposity, irritation, comedy, grief and some unexpectedly human moments. This required actual acting, which was extremely inconsiderate of them.

That makes Chugunov particularly well suited to Douglas, whose career has repeatedly involved characters who initially announce themselves as one recognizable type and then reveal something messier underneath. Those characters tend to provide much better material than characters who simply arrive carrying a sword and a paragraph of exposition. Chugunov arrives carrying baggage. Much heavier.

[Spoiler Alert]

Welcome to Snezhnaya

Genshin Impact Version 7.0, officially titled Everwinter Without Mercy, brings players into Snezhnaya and begins Chapter VII of the game’s main Archon Quest storyline. The opening story is divided into Act I, Everwinter Without Mercy, and Act II, Wraith’s Nocturne.

The update also introduces new playable characters including Odette and Alyosha, new exploration systems, additional combat mechanics and the Stellar Swirl elemental reaction. Snezhnaya itself represents one of the most important geographic expansions in the game’s history because players have known about the nation and its political importance since the early years of Genshin Impact.

So naturally this seemed like a sensible location for Chugunov to start arguing with people.

Production Personnel and Actors

Genshin Impact is developed by miHoYo and released internationally under HoYoverse. Since its original 2020 launch, the game has supported extensive voice production across multiple languages while continually expanding its cast through new regions, Archon Quests, playable characters and story-specific NPCs.

For Version 7.0, the English-language cast expands again with the arrival of Snezhnaya’s characters. D.C. Douglas provides the English voice of Chugunov, who appears throughout the new Snezhnaya Archon Quest material alongside established characters and the new characters introduced for Chapter VII.

Recording a character for a production structured like Genshin Impact differs from voicing a conventional standalone game because every new performance enters a world that players have already spent years studying, cataloguing and occasionally examining with the forensic intensity normally reserved for aircraft accident investigations. Small character details get noticed. Vocal choices get noticed. Everything gets noticed.

Another Slightly Ridiculous Addition to the Resume

Chugunov also puts Genshin Impact alongside several other major game franchises in Douglas’s voice-over credits, including Albert Wesker in the Resident Evil series, Legion in Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, Rayvis in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, G1 Michigan in Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, Suguru Kamoshida in Persona 5 and Svarog in Honkai: Star Rail.

There comes a point when appearing in both Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact begins to look less like career planning and more like HoYoverse gradually surrounding someone’s house. Douglas should probably check the windows.

Justifying Chugunov’s Existence

The arrival of Snezhnaya carries unusual significance for longtime Genshin Impact players because the nation has occupied a major place in the game’s mythology and political story since the beginning. Version 7.0 therefore does more than add another explorable area. It moves the main narrative into territory the game has spent years establishing.

That also raises the profile of characters introduced during this phase. In a live-service game with a large international audience, a story NPC can become recognizable very quickly when that character receives substantial dialogue, recurring interactions and meaningful dramatic material rather than functioning only as a quest dispenser. Chugunov gets that opportunity.

From a voice-acting perspective, roles like this demonstrate how major continuing games have changed the scale of character work. A performer can join a six-year-old franchise during a major story expansion and immediately become part of material being played, discussed, clipped and analyzed by millions of established fans. Twenty years ago, an actor worried about whether his name appeared correctly in the credits. Now someone in Belgium can identify him from three syllables before breakfast.

And players appear to have identified Douglas rather quickly. Apparently Albert Wesker, Yoshikage Kira and Kamoshida have left certain vocal fingerprints behind. Very careless of them.

D.C. Douglas as Chugunov

So yes. That voice players are hearing from Chugunov in the English version of Genshin Impact belongs to D.C. Douglas.

Version 7.0, Everwinter Without Mercy, is available now, and Chugunov awaits in Snezhnaya with a factory, several grievances and absolutely no awareness that thousands of players are about to form opinions about him on the internet.

Godspeed, old man. The Reddit threads have already begun.
