D.C. Douglas Returns to Ace Combat for a Third Deployment, Generals are concerned
Bandai Namco released Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve on October 2, 2026, and voice actor D.C. Douglas has once again infiltrated the communications network of a major military conflict. He voices various soldiers in the new game, marking his third appearance in the franchise. Apparently the fictional armed forces have decided that Douglas is cheaper than negotiating a dependable peace treaty.
The game returns to Strangereal, the series’ fictional setting. In July 2029, the Republic of Sotoa invades the Federation of Central Usea, occupies much of the country, and scatters its military. The player boards the aging aircraft carrier Endurance, crowded with refugees and the remnants of a battered force. It is not a particularly relaxing cruise.
The player assumes the identity of Wings of Theve, a legendary ace meant to inspire hope. There is a minor administrative problem: the legend was invented to improve morale. Now the player and three fellow pilots must make it real by fighting to reclaim their homeland (a demanding first week at any new job).

2007: The Voice That Kept Everyone Alive
Douglas first joined the series in Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, voicing AWACS Ghost Eye. As an Emmerian airborne command officer, Ghost Eye coordinates strikes, relays tactical intelligence, and guides Garuda Team through combat. He supplies authority when everything several thousand feet overhead goes wrong.
Radio dialogue has to communicate instructions quickly while still sounding human under pressure. Clear commands keep players oriented without disrupting the story. Ghost Eye’s voice becomes part of the mission experience, not merely decoration between explosions.
2019: The Scientist With Some Explaining to Do
In Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, Douglas returned as Dr. Schroeder, a Belkan scientist whose research helped advance Erusea’s drone technology. Instead of guiding human pilots through combat, Schroeder contributed to machines that threatened them. Douglas had effectively moved from keeping aircraft safe to helping make aircraft a larger problem. The personnel file must be magnificent.
Schroeder calls for a different vocal approach. Scientific exposition needs conviction when the technology drives the conflict. Calm explanations humanize choices affecting entire squadrons. In a franchise full of missile warnings, a composed scientist can be just as unsettling as an incoming aircraft.
2026: Back on the Radio
For Ace Combat 8, Douglas plays various soldiers rather than one specifically named scientist or command officer. Ensemble military dialogue gives the war scale beyond one gifted pilot. Small speaking parts can do important work when the action moves at jet speed.
Developer Bandai Namco Aces built the game using Unreal Engine 5, pairing detailed cloudscapes with aerial dogfights and cinematic scenes between missions. The game also offers cross-platform cooperative and competitive multiplayer, including an online Air Base that can host up to 100 players. Humanity has finally invented a way to organize an enormous airport argument from the comfort of the couch.
On October 9, Bandai Namco announced that the game had reached one million units worldwide faster than any previous Ace Combat installment. It is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. The franchise has spent three decades turning airspace into a serious workplace hazard, and business appears brisk.
Nineteen years after voicing Ghost Eye in 2007, Douglas is back on the military airwaves, presumably reporting an emergency while a pilot attempts a maneuver requiring three signatures and a medical waiver. The aircraft is airborne. The radio works. Nobody has asked him to return the keys.
