The outpouring of love from fans during this Requiem era, and the ongoing conversations about upcoming Resident Evil remakes, have genuinely touched me (and blown up my Cameo). I wanted to take a moment to breakdown the business reality that actually surrounds casting.
So many of you have shown up passionately and consistently for me, and I want you to know that means everything. But…
It Comes Down to Geography
Casting decisions follow the production house, and in recent years, Resident Evil titles have shifted to Canadian-based studios. Those regional productions naturally lean toward local talent pools, which is simply how the industry works in those territories.
LA Actors Are Uppity
So some trolls say!
I’m a SAG-AFTRA member with over 30 years in this soul-battering biz. To hire me comes with union standards, travel logistics, and monetary expectations that reflect my 30+ year career, and those frameworks don’t always align with how modern game budgets are structured.
Many of these productions are built around local, country based performer unions (or non-union in many cases), and/or emerging talent, and that’s a legitimate creative and financial choice, even if it’s a bittersweet one for some of us.
What Hasn’t Changed
I am so freaking proud of my twelve years walking in Wesker‘s designer shoes. I also have genuine admiration for the actors now taking on these iconic roles; this isn’t a rivalry, it’s a relay. And no matter how the industry evolves, my love for the RE community is absolutely unwavering.
You’ve kept the spirit of the “Master of All Unlocking” alive, and that legacy belongs to all of us.
So, big hug to all of you! Now go bug Capcom about this, not me. 🤣
